Be it ever so humble...there's no place like Resurrection House

The New Orleans-style turn-of-the-century church has been converted into comfortable dorms for volunteer groups.

There will be bath and shower facilities and separate-gender rooms, when needed.

Meals

It is important that you get a good New Orleans experience - with southern cooking specialties such as Gumbo, Jambalaya, and Red Beans & Rice.

Monday through Saturday, breakfast and dinner will be provided. Bag lunches are available for pick-up to take on the job.

Amenities

Cards, board games, books, and television to watch movies for relaxation will be available to you.

There are no laundry facilities on-site.

If you've forgotten any supplies, we will have sample shampoos & conditioners.

There is limited parking available on the street to park vehicles of all sizes.

What you need to bring with you

  • Work boots - good, sturdy work boots protect your feet from nails and other hazards
  • Tennis shoes for light activity
  • Flip-flops for shower and dorm
  • Work clothing - both long and short pants, long and short-sleeve shirts
  • Work gloves, safety goggles - make sure they fit!
  • Church or sight-seeing outfit; long underwear (November-March); sweatshirt or jacket
  • Bath towel, washcloth
  • Toiletries, ear plugs, eye mask, insect repellant, sunscreen, medications
  • Alarm clock, notebook, journal, camera, flashlight

Safety and security

All volunteers staying at Resurrection House are required to have an ID card to be admitted at any time. After 6pm, the building will be locked and all IDs will be checked at the door. There will be an 11pm curfew that will be strictly enforced for all visitors staying in the dorms.

When you arrive

Resurrection House will check in guests from noon to 5pm all week, unless special arrangements are made in advance. When checking in, you will be issued an ID badge, which you must have with you at all times. This not only allows you anywhere in Resurrection House, but will identify you as a volunteer worker if ever questioned when working on a house in the city.

Once you arrive, park, lock your automobile, and come inside. You will then be told where to move your vehicles to unload and park for the night.

Please note

There is no drinking or smoking of any kind allowed in Resurrection House.

If it's valuable, leave it at home, please.

Feedback from previous crews: "Come with no preconceived notions" - "be flexible" - "have no personal agendas" - "a sense of humor is the best tool to have!"
